College National Outreach Coordinator

STAND, the student-led division of Genocide Intervention Network, is a network of high school and college chapters and thousands of student activists across the nation committed to the prevention and end of genocide and mass atrocities globally. STAND formed out of the rapidly growing student movement to protect the people of Darfur, Sudan and now works to unify a growing student anti-genocide movement by providing activists with resources to educate and organize in their community, empowering them through an extensive network of impassioned student leaders and advocating for a change in our government’s mentality towards genocide.

The following job description offers a brief overview of a particular position on the STAND Managing Committee, followed by four categories:

1. Management Duties:
These are the essential tasks that each Coordinator will be responsible for completing.
2. Coordination Duties:
Communication and teamwork are key to an effective Managing Committee; therefore, this section outlines the ways in which each Coordinator will work with other members of the Managing Committee (MC).
3. Accountability Obligations:
Coordinators will be held accountable for their duties through the relationships and measures described in this section.
4. Required Skills:
This section outlines the abilities and experience necessary for each position.

College National Outreach Coordinator

The National Outreach Coordinator (NOC) serves as the liaison between the STAND Managing Committee and the College Outreach Team. The NOC's primary responsibility is to manage the team of College Outreach Coordinators (OCs), comprised of College Regional Outreach Coordinators (ROCs) and the New Chapter Outreach Coordinator (NuCOC), and to collaborate with the High School Outreach team to implement all national STAND programming and campaigns.  The NOC also works with ROCs to manage a team of State Outreach Coordinators (SOCs) and represents the Outreach Team on the Managing Committee in order to convey the needs of the grassroots movement as identified by the OCs.

Management Duties:

  • Maintains consistent contact (at least weekly) with ROCs and the NuCOC via email, phone, and/or instant messaging service
  • Holds monthly check-in calls with SOCs and members of the New Chapter Task Force and disseminates gathered feedback to ROCs and the NuCOC
  • Provides ongoing input on planning and execution of all STAND national campaigns to ensure that they reflect students needs, interests, and goals, as informed by OCs
  • Represents the programmatic and structural goals created by the STAND MC, with input from Outreach, to OCs
  • Consolidates and disseminates materials, information and updates from STAND MC to OCs
  • Drafts weekly regional newsletters and short messages to be distributed through online social networking tools for OCs
  • Tracks progress of all regions through OC spreadsheets and weekly communications
  • Contributes to and helps maintain databases for each region
  • Tracks OC goals and holds OCs accountable for achieving goals
  • Synthesizes data and prepares monthly report on OCs' progress/performance

Coordination Duties:

  • Provides the "outreach perspective" when working with the STAND MC to shape national programming
  • Works with High School National Outreach Coordinator to facilitate college/high school collaboration
  • Works with the STAND MC to determine content of weekly regional emails
  • Advises Programming, Advocacy, and Materials Coordinators on creating materials and guides that are useful and relevant to students through weekly check-ins with relevant members of the MC
  • Maintains weekly communication with National Programming Coordinator to facilitate implementation of national programming by Outreach Team
  • Represents views, interests and concerns of students (the "pulse" of the movement) to the rest of the MC on weekly conference calls, at retreats, and during day-to-day business

Accountability Obligations:

  • Works to meet all organizing goals set by STAND MC and National Programming Coordinator
  • Reports progress from all regions to STAND Student Director and STAND Associate through weekly calls and submission of regular written updates
  • Seeks advice and guidance from the Genocide Intervention Network staff (membership directors, etc.) when necessary
  • Responds to all email/phone communications on a daily basis

  • Strong organizing skills and experience, particularly with college students
