Education Coordinator
STAND, the student-led division of Genocide Intervention Network, is a network of high school and college chapters and thousands of student activists across the nation committed to the prevention and end of genocide and mass atrocities globally. STAND formed out of the rapidly growing student movement to protect the people of Darfur, Sudan and now works to unify a growing student anti-genocide movement by providing activists with resources to educate and organize in their community, empowering them through an extensive network of impassioned student leaders and advocating for a change in our government’s mentality towards genocide.
The following job description offers a brief overview of a particular position on the STAND Managing Committee, followed by four categories

These are the essential tasks that each Coordinator will be responsible for completing.
2. Coordination Duties:
Communication and teamwork are key to an effective Managing Committee; therefore, this section outlines the ways in which each Coordinator will work with other members of the Managing Committee (MC).
3. Accountability Obligations:
Coordinators will be held accountable for their duties through the relationships and measures described in this section.

STAND Education Coordinator
The Education Coordinator (EC) is responsible for overseeing the creation and distribution of information both internally – to STAND’s leadership team, and externally, to STAND’s membership. The EC manages the Education Task Force, a group of conflict specialists. The EC will oversee the production of all educational materials for STAND - from instructional kits to talking points to hand-outs to news briefs, blog posts and national education calls. Depending on the circumstances, the Education Coordinator will write, edit, and/or format materials, or delegate these tasks to other MC members in coordination with STAND Staff and the Student Director when appropriate. The EC will be responsible for being up-to-date on all of the conflicts of concern as identified by Genocide Intervention Network. The Education Coordinator will represent the perspectives of the Education Task Force to the STAND MC in all aspects of strategy, advocacy, and programming.
Management Duties:
- Be an active leader in and build their own chapter and use it to raise awareness, raise funds for genocide prevention and advocate policy solutions to Members of Congress
- Recruit, hire, and manage the Education Task Force
- Identify strategic opportunities and potential partners to accomplish STAND education goals
- Work closely with the Managing Committee to oversee the creation of educational materials
- Delegate the production of content for education-related materials to the appropriate MC members
- Create rapid-response materials when needed throughout the year
- Be aware and up to date on all developments pertinent to the mission and goals of STAND- informing and shaping all programmatic priorities through this knowledge
- Manage STAND's online education content
- Integrate strong, clear, and consistent messaging into all STAND materials
- Send out weekly News Briefs
Coordination Duties:
- Work with STAND Staff and Student Director to determine year-long education goals
- Coordinate internal education briefs and messaging points for the MC and work with the appropriate coordinators to update members regularly
- Maintain regular contact with Outreach Coordinators so as to be are aware of the short-term and long-term materials needs of student groups around the country, and gauge usefulness and effectiveness of already-released materials
- Maintain contact with GI-NET Education Staff and stay up-to-date on their comprehensive conflict research
- Work with Communications Coordinator to shape the message of STAND and ensures that materials and schools using them are on message
- Provide input on the shaping of all STAND events and campaigns so that they facilitate useful and effective materials
- Work with Advocacy Coordinator to ensure that advocacy actions are relevant and appropriate given the situation on the ground and that media communications accurately portray and effectively promote policy and advocacy goals
Accountability Obligations:
- Ensure the Education Task Force fills out monthly metrics and is held accountable
- Produce materials to meet deadlines set by STAND MC
- Evaluate the effectiveness of materials disseminated to STAND chapters and adjust materials to meet the needs as conveyed by Outreach Coordinators
- Communicate efforts, successes, and challenges directly to STAND via monthly metrics in order to inform STAND's programs and available resources
- Set a year-long fundraising goal and work to achieve it using STAND's resources and materials
- Actively participate in weekly MC conference calls
- Check-in weekly with STAND Student Director and Staff
