Outreach Coordinators
STAND, the student-led division of Genocide Intervention Network, is a network of high school and college chapters and thousands of student activists across the nation committed to the prevention and end of genocide and mass atrocities globally. STAND formed out of the rapidly growing student movement to protect the people of Darfur, Sudan and now works to unify a growing student anti-genocide movement by providing activists with resources to educate and organize in their community, empowering them through an extensive network of impassioned student leaders and advocating for a change in our government’s mentality towards genocide.
The following job description offers a brief overview of a particular position on the STAND Managing Committee (MC), followed by four categories:
- Management Duties: These are the essential tasks that each Coordinator will be responsible for completing.
- Coordination Duties: Communication and teamwork are key to an effective Managing Committee; therefore, this section outlines the ways in which each Coordinator will work with other members of the Managing Committee (MC).
- Accountability Obligations: Coordinators will be held accountable for their duties through the relationships and measures described in this section.
- Required Skills: This section outlines the abilities and experience necessary for each position.

STAND Outreach Coordinators
STAND Outreach Coordinators are active leaders in their chapter who seek to use their experience, knowledge and training to support, enhance and help sustain the efforts of other chapters and student activists. As members of STAND's National Managing Committee (MC), they drive the direction and outputs of STAND to ensure an effective organizational response to membership needs and to provide guidance and support directly to Core Chapters. Through constant and direct communication with STAND's Core Chapters, the Managing Committee and STAND Staff, they are able to empower students with access to information, resources and expertise and help organize coordinated action among students. They are charged with facilitating the development and growth of their own chapter and that of others through building lasting relationships with members and supporting them in their role in the movement to prevent genocide.
In order to sustain their efforts, effectively fulfill their role as leaders in the anti-genocide movement, and support Chapter Leaders, STAND Outreach Coordinators will have direct access to professional resources and trainings. Outreach Coordinators will attend a planning and training retreat as well as STANDCamp - a week long retreat with Core Chapter Leaders, other members of the STAND Managing Committee and staff, and organizing experts where they will be exposed to skill-building trainings, networking sessions and the opportunity to dialogue with members of the movement. Outreach Coordinators will also have direct access to GI-NET staff, a sustainable infrastructure and unique opportunities to be active leaders in the movement.
Management Duties:
- Maintain weekly contact with a defined group of Core Chapter Leaders and members via email, phone and/or instant messaging service
- Disseminate materials, information and updates from STAND to all activists
- Work with Core Chapter Leaders to create sustainable groups, amplify efforts, and influence local officials
- Be an active leader in and build their own chapter and use it to raise awareness, raise funds for genocide prevention, and advocate policy solutions to Members of Congress
- Contact, recruit, and support development of new STAND chapters
- Closely facilitate and monitor growth of chapters and local activists
- Convey excitement, enthusiasm and motivation to local activists
Coordination Duties:
- Work with other MC members and STAND Staff to amplify the efforts and ideas of Core Chapters
- Work with other Outreach Coordinators to coordinate efforts between colleges, high schools, and communities
- Collaborate with other MC Coordinators through daily communication to direct STAND's outputs and ensure that they are tailored and responsive to local students needs, interests, and goals
- Coordinate with Chapter Leaders and the Communications Coordinator to publicize local events and initiatives
Accountability Obligations:
- Track communication with and progress of Core Chapters through written records, reports, spreadsheets, and other means
- Maintain an up-to-date and accurate database of Core Chapters and other contacts
- Communicate efforts, core chapter activity, successes, and challenges directly to STAND via monthly metrics in order to inform STAND's programs and available resources
- Coordinate with STAND Staff in the DC office to develop monthly and year long work plans to map out individual goals, benchmarks, and plans of action to help achieve organizational goals and further develop chapters
- Ensure Core Chapter Leaders complete monthly online metrics and synthesize into a monthly report for MC and STAND Staff
- Set a year-long fundraising goal and work to achieve it using STAND's resources and materials
- Actively participate in weekly MC conference calls
- Check-in weekly with STAND Student Director and Staff
