Regional Outreach Coordinator
STAND, the student-led division of Genocide Intervention Network, is a network of high school and college chapters and thousands of student activists across the nation committed to the prevention and end of genocide and mass atrocities globally. STAND formed out of the rapidly growing student movement to protect the people of Darfur, Sudan and now works to unify a growing student anti-genocide movement by providing activists with resources to educate and organize in their community, empowering them through an extensive network of impassioned student leaders and advocating for a change in our government’s mentality towards genocide.
The following job description offers a brief overview of a particular position on the STAND Outreach Team (OTeam), followed by four categories:
1. Management Duties:
These are the essential tasks that each Coordinator will be responsible for completing.
2. Coordination Duties:
Communication and teamwork are key to an effective Outreach Team; therefore, this section outlines the ways in which each Coordinator will work with other members of the OTeam.
3. Accountability Obligations:
Coordinators will be held accountable for their duties through the relationships and measures described in this section.
4. Required Skills:
This section outlines the abilities and experience necessary for each position.

Regional Outreach Coordinators:
Regional Outreach Coordinators (ROCs) are the primary liaisons between the grassroots of the anti-genocide movement and the Managing Committee – the decision making body of STAND. They are in constant and direct communication with individual STAND chapters and individual activists in order to empower them with information and resources from the national level and organize coordinated action among students in their region. ROCs are responsible for communicating chapter needs and actions to the STAND Managing Committee (MC) and collaborating with the MC through their NOC to translate those needs into the production of tangible resources for student activists. They are charged with facilitating the development and growth of their region through developing relationships with members and supporting them in their role.
The Following 3 ROC positions are available:
Great Lakes College ROC
Midwest College ROC (Great Plains and Southwest combined)
Management Duties:
- Collaborate with the STAND MC through daily communication with the National Outreach Coordinator (NOC)
- Maintain weekly contact with chapter leaders and members and individual activists in their region via email, phone and/or instant messaging service
- Disseminate materials, information and updates from STAND to all activists in region
- Help chapter leaders strengthen their STAND chapters, make them sustainable, and encourage coordination with and involvement in STAND campaigns and messaging
- Manage State Outreach Coordinators in your region to expand and strengthen the activist network in the area
- Contact, recruit, and support development of new STAND chapters in region
- Connect schools with other groups in their local areas (other colleges, high schools, community groups, etc) and facilitate collaboration
- Provide ongoing input on planning and execution of all STAND National campaigns to ensure that they are tailored and responsive to local students needs, interests, and goals
- Engage members in National Programming and facilitate participation
- Track communication with and progress of all schools in region through written records, reports, spreadsheets, and other means
- Maintain an official database of chapters and student activists in your region
- Convey excitement, enthusiasm and motivation to local activists
Coordination Duties:
- Work with STAND's National Outreach Coordinator and the GI-NET STAND Associate to shape and implement a nationally coordinated campaign
- Work with other Outreach Team members to coordinate efforts between colleges, high schools, and communities
- Advise Campaigns, Education, and Materials Coordinators on creating events, projects and materials that are useful and relevant to students through communication with the National Outreach Coordinator
- Alert Communications Coordinator to media-worthy activities and events at region's schools
- Represent views, interests and concerns of students (the "pulse" of the movement) to the STAND MC through weekly conference calls with the Outreach Team, at retreats, and during day-to-day business
- Be an active member of your own STAND chapter and use your position to strengthen their efforts
Accountability Obligations:
- Contribute to and help shape all organizational and programmatic goals set by the STAND MC and work with the Outreach Team to achieve those goals.
- Work with the NOC, Outreach Team and STAND Associate to map out individual goals, benchmarks, and plans of action to help achieve STAND’s overall goals as well as further develop chapters in your region.
- Report progress from all schools to STAND National Outreach Coordinator and STAND/GI-Net Associate through weekly outreach calls and submission of regular written updates.
- Seek advice and guidance from outside staff as well (GI-Net staff, Carl Wilkens Fellows, previous Coordinators, etc) when necessary
- Work with the NOC and STAND Associate to track progress of individual performance and growth
Required Skills:

- Strong leadership skills, especially ability to motivate and create accountability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizing skills and experience, particularly with students
- Self-motivation and organization
