Technology Coordinator

STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition is an umbrella organization of over 800 high school and college chapters dedicated to putting an end to genocide, specifically the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan. STAND formed out of the rapidly growing student movement to protect the people of Darfur and works to unify this anti-genocide movement under one message by providing students with informational, educational and organizing resources, empowering them through an extensive network of impassioned student activists and advocating for a change in the world's mentality towards genocide.

STAND is the student division of the Genocide Intervention Network.

The following job description offers a brief overview of a particular position on the STAND Managing Committee (MC), followed by four categories:

1. Management Duties:
These are the essential tasks that each Coordinator will be responsible for completing.
2. Coordination Duties:
Communication and teamwork are key to an effective Managing Committee; therefore, this section outlines the ways in which each Coordinator will work with other members of the Managing Committee (MC).
3. Accountability Obligations:
Coordinators will be held accountable for their duties through the relationships and measures described in this section.
4. Required Skills:
This section outlines the abilities and experience necessary for each position.

Technology Coordinator

STAND's Technology Coordinator will be responsible for translating what STAND does at the grassroots level to the World Wide Web. He/She will be responsible for the maintenance and development of STAND's cyber image and website. This position would serve as an active member of the STAND Managing Committee and provide input in STAND strategy, planning and development on whole.

Management Duties:

  • Work to maintain STAND's website as the leading resource for anti-genocide advocacy for students
  • Provide input on STAND campaign planning so that all campaigns have strong web-oriented elements that serve as a resource for all STAND initiatives
  • Craft and advise on strong, clear, and consistent messaging for STAND efforts on the Internet
  • Ensure to the greatest extent possible that STAND online materials promote and adhere to the established message
  • Work closely with the STAND Administrator and the Technology Director of the Genocide Intervention Network to come up with strategy and collaborative initiatives
  • Write and edit content for STAND's website
  • Develop the capabilities of STAND's website and related sites (such as STAND's blogs
  • Maintain STAND's website and ensure that it remains most up to date

Coordination Duties:

  • Run and set agenda for weekly technology conference calls with rest of Technology Team
  • Communicate weekly with members of the STAND Managing Committee, Executive Director and Administrator
  • Coordinate with other organizations to publicize STAND and STAND events online

Accountability Obligations:

  • Manage and report results of tracking to MC and the STAND Student Coordinator
  • Support Outreach Division to ensure effective online implementations of STAND campaigns
  • Coordinate efforts with GI-Net Technology Coordinator

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in web design and web programming
  • Experience in website maintenance
  • Experience with open source content management systems (e.g. Wordpress, Drupal)
  • Proficiency in HTML
  • Creativity for web design
  • Ability to translate ideas and strategies into dynamic web tools
  • Strong communications skills
