Fundraising Coordinator
The Fundraising Coordinator (FC) serves three very important and evolving purposes on the STAND Managing Committee. The first and overall purpose of the position is to ensure that the STAND Leadership Team and local STAND groups are incorporating a culture and expectation of fundraising into all campaigns and events. The second is to serve as a resource for local chapters – offering fundraising advice, ideas, material creation, conference workshops, etc. Lastly, the FC will also work with STAND’s National Programming Coordinator to coordinate an annual national fundraiser for all national chapters. As this is a new position on the STAND Managing Committee, the Coordinator will be given the opportunity to develop short-term and long-term strategies and structure for the position. Because the position is new, the FC will sit on the STAND Managing Committee as a non-voting member until sufficient progress has been made on short-term goals (as developed by the FC in coordination with the MC), at which time, the MC will vote on incorporating the FC as a voting member of the MC.
Materials/Communication Duties:
- Create materials to empower STAND chapters to effectively fundraise as a core component of their activism.
- Track and collect success stories of fundraising events on a weekly basis to be used in national newsletters, on the STAND website, and in future development materials.
- Develop fundraising workshops which will be used for internal education as well as offered at National and Regional conferences.
Coordination Duties:
- Work with the Managing Committee to ensure that development and fundraising is regularly considered in campaign and event planning.
- Work with Outreach Team to ensure that they are empowered and educated to effectively train and encourage chapters to fundraise.
- Serve as a resource for local chapters on the topic of grassroots fundraising.
- Coordinate with STAND’s Programming Coordinator to plan one annual national fundraiser (STANDFast).
- Work with GI-NET’s Development Director to aid with grant writing and individual giving as needed (limited) as well as to coordinate grassroots fundraising efforts among the larger GI-NET constituency.
Required Skills:
- Strong interest in non-profit development / fundraising
- Working knowledge of the anti-genocide movement and ability to represent STAND to outside groups and communicate effectively with local chapters
- Self-motivation, innovation, and patience are extremely important as this job will entail developing a new position within the organization and an under-served and under-resourced part of the overall movement
- Organization and ability to handle nation-wide contacts

When I worked in the White House, every time we wanted to do something on an issue like Congo or Rwanda, we'd turn around and hope that citizens across the country were going to push our issue forward, but there was nothing but a big, big silence. So what we need, all over this country, is people who are willing to stand up and make noise whenever there is a situation that demands the United States attention and our action.
