The STAND Leadership Team (SLT) is headed by the Managing Committee (MC), made up of 13 dedicated college and high school students.  The Managing Committee is charged with resourcing, uniting and empowering over 100 Core Chapters, whose leaders make up the rest of the STAND Leadership Team, and thousands more STAND members across the country.

Andrea Hong

Originally from Southern California, Andrea left the West Coast to attend Smith College, where she majors in Government, and East Asian Studies. Andrea first became involved in the anti-genocide movement in high school. As Student Body President, she led her school through a week-long campaign to raise awareness about the genocide in Darfur, and fundraised over $17,000 in six days. She continued her activism by founding a STAND chapter at her college, and served as STAND’s Northeast Regional Outreach Coordinator. Andrea has also studied Political Economy at Ewha University in South Korea, and History and Global Governance at Oxford University. Outside of STAND, she is an avid soccer enthusiast and performs with Smith's acapella group, the Smithereens. Back to top

Daniel grew up in New York City and is now a sophomore at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, in Washington, DC, where he is majoring in international politics with a concentration in international security studies. Daniel first became involved with STAND when he was appointed National Burma Education Coordinator in June 2009, and subsequently served as National Advocacy Coordinator in the spring of 2010. Outside of STAND, Daniel serves on the board of directors of the Georgetown International Relations Club and the editorial staff of the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs. Back to top

Christina Massey

Christina Massey is a native Arizonan.  She is a senior at ASU in Phoenix, where she is majoring in Public Relationswith a minor in Sociology.  Christina became involved with STAND when she was in high school when she combined her club, A World of Difference, with STAND in Fall 2006 after she learned of the genocide in Darfur and the mass atrocities occurring all over the world.  She has worked with STAND at ASU and other organizations on campus to educate people in her community about these issues. Christina looks forward to being Communications Coordinator because she believes the message STAND has is strong. She wants to take the communications platform to the next level. An interesting fact about Christina is that she has her black belt in martial arts; she loves to scuba dive and is a coffee fanatic, having worked at Starbucks for a few years. Back to top

Madison Webb is a Senior at Converse College in South Carolina, where she is double-majoring in Politics and Philosophy.  Madison first became involved with STAND through her work with Invisible Children, and becoming familiar with other human rights atrocities in African countries.  Her passion is international relations and human rights specifcally related to women.  Her current goals are to become fluent in Spanish and enjoy and live the last year of college to the fullest! Ashton Simmons

Ashton is a senior at Depauw University, in Indiana, where she is majoring in Political Science and History, with minors in French and European Studies. She started her anti-genocide activism at DePauw and became involved with STAND after attending the Pledge2Protect conference in 2009.  Engaging with genocide on a scholarly level, Ashton is currently writing a 100-page honors thesis on genocide prevention.  She holds a passionate love for travel and has studied in Switzerland, France, and Ireland.  When she stays still for a while, Ashton can be found enjoying adventure sports or curled up with a good book. Zack is a senior at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he first joined his local STAND chapter during the summer of 2009. Over the past year, his chapter has become increasingly involved with national STAND campaigns while continuing to raise thousands of dollars locally. This year, as an Outreach Coordinator on the STAND MC, Zack looks forward to working with the well-established anti-genocide community to extinguish and  prevent present and future atrocities worldwide. Alice is a senior at Stanford University, where she is majoring in International Relations and minoring in Arabic. Alice first became passionate about international issues at the age of 8 when she moved from her hometown of Villanova, PA to Saudi Arabia. She started her high school’s STAND chapter, and has been active in the Stanford chapter since her freshman year. As a sophomore, Alice was the California College State Outreach Coordinator for STAND. Alice loves traveling, and has spent time studying abroad in France and Morocco. In her spare time, she likes to go for long runs, play guitar, or lie out in the sunshine. Back to top

MacKenzie “Mac” Hamilton is a sophomore at Smith College majoring in Government and minoring in African Studies.  She has been a member of STAND since 2006, and has most recently traveled to Rwanda as part of a human rights and post-genocide delegation, served as the Pledge2Protect Lobby Day Coordinator, helped to jumpstart a STAND chapter at Smith College, and served as VT/NH/MA SOC. She’s wicked excited to be working with such amazing chapters as an Outreach Coordinator this semester!  She loves living on Cape Cod, frequent late-night beach visits, singing loudly through the Smith campus, and fair trade coffee by the pound! Alexandra Johnson is a junior at St. Pius X High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the founder of her chapter there and is excited for another year of STAND. Erin Murphy

Erin Murphy is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is double majoring in Journalism and International Studies, with a minor in Russian language.  Erin became involved in STAND in her first year at UNC. Although she knew about genocide and mass atrocities occurring around the world several years before starting college, it was not until finding STAND that she found the opportunity to take part in a real movement. Erin served as the co-chair of the Events Planning Committee at her home chapter for two years, and served as a chapter board member for five semesters. She cannot wait to serve as an Outreach Coordinator and is SO excited about helping to provide chapters with the tools to carry out STAND’s goals for the year. Erin is also in a dance company, recently studied abroad in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and is also an advocate for anti-human trafficking legislation. Back to top

Kathleen Walsh is from Massachusetts and is a junior at Seton Hall University at the Whitehead School of International Relations and Diplomacy. She is pursuing a double major in International Relations and Diplomacy and Modern Languages. She is taking Arabic and French and has a passion for ethnic conflict mediation. Katie first became involved in STAND in 2008 after attending a national conference. She started Seton Hall's chapter and served as the New Chapter College Outreach Coordinator during the 2009-2010 school year. She loves to travel, dance, explore, and serve others near and far. Megan Wanee

Megan is a senior this year at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Honors Political Science with a French minor. She first heard about STAND when John Prendergast spoke at UT about the ongoing conflict in Darfur and the ways students can take action. After reading his and Don Cheadle's book Not On Our Watch, she joined forces with her friend Ashley to create UT's very own STAND chapter in 2008. Megan is excited to work with this year's MC as an outreach coordinator so she can share her passion for organizing change and help others learn awareness and advocacy in the anti-genocide movement. Megan loves exploring the music scene and going to concerts. She is a big fan of beautiful weather, tasty food, playing with friends, travel, and adventures. Oh, and coffee. Back to top

Allison Zhou

Currently residing in the metropolitan DC area, Allison Zhou attends W.T. Woodson High School as a senior. As a sophomore, Allison became a student ambassador of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum where she first learned about STAND through fellow ambassadors. After developing a passion for human rights through her experience at the Holocaust Museum, Allison became involved with Invisible Children and Resolve Uganda and began to advocate against the war in northern Uganda and the use of child soldiers in the Lord's Resistance Army. Continuing her activism in genocide awareness, Allison founded her high school's chapter of STAND, STAND for Conscience. Outside of STAND, Allison serves as an International Thespian Society officer and a member of the first Fairfax County Student Human Rights Commission. Back to top
