 Jenna Fox - College

If you're in college, Jenna Fox is your go-to girl for anything STAND-related on the West Coast, and hopes to empower students in her region to be the best anti-genocide activists they can be. Originally from Las Vegas, she made the 7 hour trek up to Reno in 2007 where she co-founded her school's STAND chapter. She is a Health Ecology major with a minor in Holocaust, Genocide, and Peace Studies, and will never give up her fight to end and prevent genocide. It is rumored that she is addicted to fresh pineapple, Grey's Anatomy, and chai tea (not all together, though she probably wouldn't complain if that were the case). Back to top

 Leslie Brian - High School

Leslie Brian is thrilled to be back on the STAND Outreach Team as the West Coast High School Regional Outreach Coordinator, after serving as last year's California High School State Outreach Coordinator.  She is dedicated to active communication, education, and networking with her regional chapters, hoping to bring a renewed sense of energy to the West Coast ROC position.  Leslie joined STAND three years ago in 2005, when she started a chapter at her own high school, which has since raised over $25,000 for Darfur.  After graduating from high school this year, she will attend Stanford University in the fall of 2008, where she plans on continuing her work as an anti-genocide activist.   Back to top

My name is Katie Malspina, and I go to the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in Social Work with a focus in cultural studies, and I will graduate in spring 2010.  I became interested in the genocide in Darfur while I was doing cross examination debate in high school.  I joined the STAND chapter at UT a year and a half ago and I have been advocating for change in Darfur ever since.  I hope to empower other students to take action for the people of Darfur as the Texas State Outreach Coordinator.  Melody Hollifield - College

Melody is a junior at the University of Oklahoma where she is majoring in International Studies and double minoring in African Studies and Non-Profit Organizational Studies.  She heard Paul Rusesabagina speak followed by a Hotel Rwanda showing her freshman year of college, and knew she wanted to spend her life working to end genocide and mass atrocities.  As a regional coordinator, Melody hopes to strengthen and connect existing STAND chapters across the Great Plains.  She grew up in Newkirk, OK (Population 2,141) and lives on Dr. Pepper and sweet tea.  Matthew Heck - High School

Matthew Heck is a senior in the International Baccalaureate Programme at Wichita High School East. He has been an active leader in East's Darfur Action Group, has helped with the state's divestment, and is the main organizer of the 1,300-mile Never Ignore, Never Forget relay from Wichita, KS to Washington D.C. After school, Matthew enjoys running track and cross-country as well as playing lively games of Ultimate Frisbee with his friends. Back to top

Rebecca is the ROC for the Great Lakes region. She is a senior at Indiana University, where she studies International Studies, English, and African Studies. A native of Boston, her family has resided in Bloomington, Indiana for the past three years. Rebecca is also finishing a minor in Kiswahili and spent the fall of her junior year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Back to top

 Caroline McCarthy - High School

Currently a senior at North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, Illinois, Caroline has been an anti-genocide activist for several years. She founded her school's first STAND chapter in the fall of 2007, and is now the high school Regional Outreach Coordinator for the Great Lakes region. As hiROC, Caroline is working to organize and energize the many chapters in the region by providing the resources, knowledge, advice, and support chapters need in order to maximize their potential in the fight against genocide. Her other activities and interests include field hockey, Model UN, Snowball, photography, running, community service, and dancing.  Back to top

Lisa is a sophomore at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina where she is majoring in History and minoring in Religion. She loves being outdoors and working towards international human rights. She first learned about STAND in August of 2007 and randomly decided to attend the National Student Conference in DC. The Conference changed her life and now she is ridiculously excited about STAND! In her free time, Lisa likes to read, go to concerts, hike, hang out with her family and friends, and travel! After learning of the Genocide in Darfur he decided that he would not allow another chapter of injustice to be written in the book of humanity without taking action. Zach enjoys invigorating people to make a difference and sacrifices many hours of sleep to do his best to keep the promise "Never Again". Emily is a rising senior at Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton, MA. She began fundraising for UNICEF's efforts in Darfur by coordinating the first of a series of annual benefit concerts in 2006 and has since founded Cardinal Spellman's STAND chapter.  Adriane Alicea - College

As the Mid-Atlantic Outreach Coordinator Adriane works to mobilize, develop and connect chapters across the region. She originally hails from New Jersey and is a Political Science and Africana Studies Major. She became involved with the anti-genocide movement in 6th grade after hearing  a classmate's mom explain  a post conflict development trip she took to Rwanda after the genocide.  She serves as her STAND chapter's Campus Events Coordinator and volunteers as a mentor for a recently arrived refugee family in Baltimore.  Sarah Juster - High School

Sarah Juster is a junior at Community High School in Ann Arbor Michigan, and is very excited to be the new hiNuCOC. She learned about the atrocities in Darfur in an African Civilization class her freshman year of high school, and started a chapter of STAND for high school students in Ann Arbor the same year. Her chapter has raised several thousand dollars through movie screenings, concerts, and through selling fla-vor-ice. Sarah hopes to one day prosecute those committing horrendous crimes, such as genocide, through the International Criminal Court. In her spare time, she is also an avid fan of jazz music, and loves to play gigs with her jazz band.Back to top
