Arizona
	Dane Sorensen - High School Thunderbird High School, 2010 arizona.hs@standnow.org Dane Frederick Sorensen is a junior at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix, AZ. He is honored to be part of STAND's leadership team and is striving to end of Genocide. In 7th grade Danes's school provided a seminar with a Holocaust survivor. The descriptions and tales of horrors from that dark period had a profound impact on Dane's view of the world. When he learned that Genocide remains today in Darfur it was time for action. As a freshman, Dane learned about STAND and it's mission, so he founded the Thunderbird High School STAND chapter. Entering it's third school year, the THS chapter now stands at nearly 200 members and has sponsored numerous events to raise money and to support the refugees. He intends on working with existing chapters and developing new chapters throughout the state of Arizona. Together, we can grow into an educational, political and economic community to give voice for those who need it most. Back to Top.
California
	Alice Bosley - College Stanford University, 2011 california@standnow.org As the SOC for California, Alice is the liaison between California STAND chapters and the national STAND movement. An International Relations major at Stanford University, Alice has been hooked on traveling and international affairs ever since she was 8, when her family moved to Saudi Arabia for four years. She's been involved with STAND for the past 3 years, after co-founding a chapter in her high school. Alice is originally from Philadelphia, and is excited to work with all of the California chapters this year! Back to Top.
Florida
	Marylin Winkle - College Stetson University, 2011 florida@standnow.org A sophomore Cello Performance Major at Stetson University, Marylin Winkle is battling social injustices both in her local community and in our international community as Florida's State Outreach Coordinator. If there is one concept she has come to embrace in her time at Stetson, it is the vast significance of human relationships; it is with dedicated passion that Marylin steps up to re-connect the activists in her state. As a Bonner Lead Team member at Stetson, she has also been known to spend her time mentoring struggling Kindergarten students, teaching choir at a local, under-funded middle school, and offering English Lessons to Mexican migrant farm workers. Ultimately, Marylin hopes to combine her passions for music and youth empowerment by playing the cello in a major symphony and using the rest of her time to teach lessons to talented, ambitious students from low-economic backgrounds. Illinois
	Elizabeth Salowitz - High School New Trier High School, 2009 illinois.hs@standnow.org As a freshman, Liz worked to found and head New Trier's STAND chapter and will be sad to leave it at the end of this year when she graduates. She hopes to help high school STAND chapters in Illinois become more active by helping them utilize all of their available resources and talking to local school and community members about human rights violations around the world and what can be done about them. Liz believes awareness is one of the most important parts of STAND's advocacy--someone in an airport once saw her "Save Darfur" shirt and asked her what "a Darfur" was. Aside from STAND, Liz's passions include editing her school newspaper, being politically active, debating (competitively and for fun), baking, and taking naps. Back to Top.
Massachusetts
	Nikki Tischler - College UMass Amherst, 2011 massachusetts@standnow.org Nikki Tishler is a sophomore at UMass Amherst, majoring in Social Justice Law and Peace Studies (and no, it's not a real major! she's designing it herself!) She currently resides in Plymouth, but has lived in Easton, Mansfield, and Stoughton, MA. She went to Fontbonne Academy in Milton, MA for high school, which is where she became involved with the situation in Darfur. Her junior and senior years she ran the Fast for Darfur solo, and organized a Walk for Darfur her senior year. When she's not working on STAND stuff, learning about human rights issues, or being a full time activist, she enjoys horseback riding, theatre (acting, specifically!), and always listens to music! She worked at a tea shop the last two summers, which has made her a tea snob, but she loves it! Her friends believe she was meant to grow up in the 60's, and she has a habit of making mashed potatoes for her friends when they get their wisdom teeth out! And of course, she is SUPER excited to be the MA SOC! Back to Top.
New Jersey
	Kim Magaraci - High School Camden County College, 2012 newjersey.hs@standnow.org Kim Magaraci fights Genocide from behind her computer and from on top of her horse. She is an International Studies major at Camden County College. She first read about the genocide in Darfur during her Freshman year at Cherokee High School in Marlton, after reading Nicholas Kristof's article about GI-Net. She loves Kristof like we all loved Hanson in our younger days, and still keeps up on his columns about Darfur and Congo. She has only lived in New Jersey, and believes it to be the state with the most spirit... and nuclear waste facilities. According to Kim, STAND Conferences are the best things ever, and she believes them to be the perfect opportunity for learning and shenanigans. She has been working with NJ STAND High School chapters since she co-founded Cherokee's chapter in 2007. Aside from STAND and school, Kim works nights as a dog trainer in order to spoil her rescued horse, Sir Galahad, who likes to break things. New York
	Morgan McDaniel - High School Pelham Memorial High School, 2009 newyork.hs@standnow.org Morgan McDaniel is a senior at Pelham Memorial High school. She first heard of the Darfur conflict as a freshman and helped to found her school's STAND chapter the next year, of which she is now the president. When she isn't dragging her friends into New York City to attend rallies, she is involved in theater at her school. She hopes to pursue international relations in college. As State Outreach Coordinator, she helps high school chapters develop their resources and create partnerships with other chapters in the area. Back to Top.
Ohio
	Sasha Klyachkina - College Case Western Reserve University, 2011 ohio@standnow.org Sasha is a sophomore at Case Western Reserve University double majoring in psychology and international studies. She became involved with STAND her junior year in high school, when a chapter was founded there. Despite being born in St. Petersburg, Russia, her family made the move to the Chicago area when she was six, where she has been living until attending CWRU. She loves that STAND is about empowering people to act, and as the Ohio SOC, hopes to help chapters reach their full potential and build a strong network within the state. Back to Top.
	Mido Aly - High School Upper Arlington High School - 2010 ohio.hs@standnow.org A junior at the Upper Arlington High School, Mido first became involved in STAND through a good friend in the spring of 2008. As Ohio HiSoc, Mido hopes to build up the number of active high school chapters in Ohio, and bridge the gap between high school and college chapters. A devoted member of a number of clubs at his High School, Mido divides his time outside of schoolwork and STAND to the UAHS Golden Bear Marching Band, the UAHS Mock Trial, Model United Nations, and Speech & Debate teams, as well as his friends and Family. Mido is also a poetry lover and self-proclaimed Harry Potter fanatic. Back to Top.
Pennsylvania
	Katie Ashmore - College Swarthmore College, 2011 pennsylvania@standnow.org Katie Ashmore became involved with STAND her junior year in high school after she attended the first national conference at Harvard University in December 2005. She helped to co-found her high school's STAND chapter. Since coming to Swarthmore College she has been active in her chapter and hopes to support and motivate other college chapters as the Pennsylvania State Outreach Coordinator. Katie plans to major in Sociology and Anthropology and to continue to use cultural understanding in human rights advocacy. Back to Top.
Virginia
	Katrina Field - College Norfolk State University, 2009 virginia@standnow.org Katrina Field is a returning adult student of History at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA. Her interest in anti-genocide activism began with the crises in Bosnia and Rwanda during her high school years in the mid-1990s. During that time, there was no solid student anti-genocide movement, and the internet, still in its infancy, did not provide the opportunities for networking/grassroots activism that are available today.Katrina is committed to bringing Virginians together to end the genocide in Darfur and elsewhere in the world, and would love to hear from any Virginia students or community members who share that commitment. Washington, D.C.
	Stephanie Figgins - College George Washington University, 2011 washingtondc@standnow.org This is Stephanie's second year as the Washington, D.C. State Outreach Coordinator, although she thinks it more accurate to be called the D.C. DOC (District Outreach Coordinator). Originally from Phoenix, AZ, Stephanie is a sophomore at the George Washington University where she majors in Economics and International Affairs. Steph first got involved with the anti-genocide movement when she attended a lecture on the Rwanda genocide, which prompted her and her friends to found their high school's STAND chapter. She is inspired by the chapter leaders and members who do all of the leg-work for this movement, and by the fact that the Capitol building and White House are only a few metro stops away. Back to Top.
