STAND Out Loud: National Day of Action

For the upcoming conference we want to prove how vast our network really is. But instead of saying it, we want to SHOW it! In order to do this, we want every chapter to bring/send in a banner that represents STAND’s constituency in a new and creative way, beyond just the individuals who can make it to the conference. This banner is a crucial component of our Sound the Alarm campaign, as it will demonstrate to Congress the power of our constituency but more importantly, our unwavering spirit to stand by the people of Sudan. Use this banner to tell your Congressman/woman that we are ready to take action on Sudan now!

We will use these in our march to Capitol Hill, so it will only work if we have lots of banners! It only takes about 30 minutes if you find an old twin sheet and some paint/markers. The more creative, the better, of course, but whatever you can do to contribute will be wonderful!

Decorate a banner in a way that represents your chapter and your school/community!

For example: Minneapolis is a very artsy city, so they are going to invite students to draw on it, but each chapter can be unique. Handprints, signatures, etc, but keep it simple!

Details to get started:

  • Use fabric about the size of a twin sheet: 39x76 inches
    • Easiest material to use would be... a twin sheet! But you can also use scrap fabric of the same size or whatever you can get your hands on. Make sure that it will survive a trip to DC and a march to Capitol Hill, though.
  • Include your chapter’s name & school. And the text, “Its time to wake up!” Followed by the subheadline, “Sound the Alarm on Sudan.” (Or find some other way to be creative about incorporating our message to Congress)
  • Take a picture of your chapter with the finished banner and post it to the STAND Out Loud: National Day of Action facebook event ON October 18th! This will serve as our virtual National Day of Action. Don’t forget this step, as it is crucial to the visibility aspect!
  • Bring/Mail the banner to the conference.

For chapters that can't make it to the conference: Mail in your banner to DC by Tuesday, October 18th as a way of symbolically representing your chapter as a part of this nationwide event!
