Learn about Civilian Protection
The most important and obvious need in cases of genocide and related atrocities is still the least frequently met: the need to ensure the safety of civilians from killing, rape, destruction of livelihoods, and other acts of violence. Current peacekeeping efforts in Darfur and other areas have been largely ineffective in addressing this need, while villages in Burma remain vulnerable to attacks.

While GI-NET and STAND’s advocacy work changes governments policy to effect an end to genocide now and in the future, we also work with our members to support projects on the ground that help protect civilians now. Our protection program identifies opportunities to protect civilians in Darfur and eastern Burma through privately funded projects, and works with partners on the ground to implement these projects. Effectively helping civilians in cases of genocide and mass atrocity requires the ability to find and fund creative options in an often challenging and rapidly-changing environment. Contributions by individuals like you make this possible and constitute the vast majority of funding for these projects. Your donation will go into our Civilian Protection Fund from which it can be dispersed to projects such as those described below.
