Action 5: Plan Ahead for the School Year
Sure, summer has just begun. But in only a couple months, school will be back in full force, your chapter will be holding its first meeting, DarfurFast will be right around the corner, and the 2nd Annual National Student Conference will be underway! Summer vacation is the perfect time to start planning for the coming year.
Here are some ideas to get you started!
- Register for the National Student Conference! Registration will open mid-summer. The conference will be held in Washington, D.C. in the fall. We sold out last year, so register early! The conference will have a $50 registration fee. Don't forget to spread the news to the rest of your chapter!
- Send a planning email out to your STAND chapter to start brainstorming your goals and ideas for the coming school year. Discuss ways that you would like to Join the Summer Fundraising Challenge.
- As members of the permanent anti-genocide constituency, we aim to create the political will to prevent and end genocides. One of the ways to achieve this is by voting and then holding our elected officials accountable. Make sure your fellow chapter leaders and members are registered for the big fall election season! Consider planning a STAND-sponsored voter registration drive for when you get back to school!
- Connect with other STAND chapters, Darfur, anti-genocide, and human rights groups in your school area and think of ways to collaborate once school starts.
- Stay in touch with your regional or state outreach coordinator over the summer! They'll give you tips, strategies, and resources to help you plan your chapter's activities.
