Action 6: Support Fellow STAND and Anti-Genocide Activists

"An entire four years after Congress declared genocide in Darfur, we can still end the atrocities. We can still save lives. There are hundreds of thousands of refugees who have refused to quit fighting, and who still believe in our potential to help them withstand this terrible crisis."

-- Scott Warren (click here to read more from this blog post)

Over the summer of 2008, Brown University students Colin O'Brien (former STAND National High School Outreach Coordinator) and Scott Warren (former STAND Student Director) are embarking on a trip to Africa. They will be traveling to Zimbabwe, Kenya, the refugee camps bordering the Chad-Sudan region, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. In Eastern Chad, follow Scott and Colin through daily web casts, journals, and blog postings as they join the i-ACT (interactive-activism) field team in the refugee camps and meet the survivors that your work helps.

Scott and Colin in ChadThroughout the trip, Colin and Scott hope to capture the individual perspective on the various conflicts that have recently engrossed the continent. Through talking and engaging with people on the ground, they hope to bring their story home, enabling us to further understand the complex continent. Additionally, Colin and Scott will provide individual analysis of the various countries they plan to visit. Please follow them throughout their trip with their africatrip08 and i-ACT blogs, and photo galleries, and get in touch with any questions or comments!

Stop Genocide Now: 100 Day Fast

On April 7th, 2008, the 14th anniversary of the start of the genocide in Rwanda, Stop Genocide Now (SGN) will begin the 100 Day Fast for Darfur. This tag-team fast will coincide with the one hundred days it took to kill 800,000 people in Rwanda, as the world stood paralyzed. It is our way to stand in solidarity with the victims and survivors of Darfur, today’s ongoing genocide, and demand immediate protection for the millions of innocent civilians that are in grave danger of displacement, starvation, rape, and death. We fast to demand urgent action and not just urgent words, and we fast to support greatly needed food relief.

STAND will be providing an opportunity for you to support SGN this summer by asking you to send your representatives an email with the link to a video, a policy ask, and a story of a survivor.  If you would like to fast for Darfur send us an email at fast@stopgenocidenow.org
