'Tis the Season to STAND

Join thousands of students across the nation over the next three months to make sure Capitol Hill continues to give attention to our calls for peace by joining our “Tis the Season to STAND," three part campaign during the holidays! Since 2004, students all over the country have been calling on the Hill to bring peace to Sudan and make “Never Again” a reality.

With January’s referendum in Sudan, and the beginning of a new Congressional session, the next few months are essential to following through on our mission. From east coast to west, STAND chapters will be acting in solidarity to ensure peace in Sudan and demand that the U.S. government work toward passing legislation that will help prevent further acts of genocide and mass atrocities.

'Tis the Season to STAND has three core components:

  1. STANDGiving: 1,122 National calls by 11/22. What are you thankful for this holiday season? At STAND, we're thankful for being part of such an informed, passionate movement and the freedom to be loud when the time calls for it.  We can all be thankful for our freedom to approach our elected officials and urge them to take action to help protect civilians from mass violence and human rights violations. Our voices matter.  And now, we must use them while our elected officials and administration still has an opportunity to prevent potential conflict and targeting of civilians in Sudan. Join hundreds of students across the nation to make 1,122 calls by 11/22/2010, to our elected officials, asking them to ensure a peaceful referendum in south Sudan by appointing a Darfur diplomat. Give your voice. Give your thanks. Make the call.

  1. 12 Days of STAND: 12 daily actions for you to take December 1st-12th - This holiday season we, have one last chance to push our government to take action for peace in Sudan.  Help us ensure a peaceful referendum in South Sudan, and prevent a potential return to mass voilence and targeting of civilians throughout the country, including in Darfur.  Whether you're still with your chapter, just gearing up for finals, or already home for the holidays, we'll bring you ways to participate both as an individual and as a chapter.  Participate as an individual upSTANDer by signing up for the 12 Days of Action: we'll bring you one easy action a day that will take just minutes to do, but still pack a hard punch at getting our message through to Congress and the administration.  Then, take part with your chapter in the movement-wide week of action by registering your chapter's event.  Chapter events hosted during this week are also eligible for funding for whatever you need - from pizza to speakers, your event's on us. Sign up now and learn more!

  1. New Year's (Conflict) Resolutions: Renewing our Pledge to Protect.  Renew your pledge to protect as we start the year off right, with real genocide prevention legislation and ensuring a peaceful referendum in South Sudan at the top of our agenda .  Time to make Never Again more than just a catchy a slogan.  Make your pledge today.
