Amity STANDCREATED:09.28.2008
ConnecticutNortheastUnited States
The Amity High School chapter of STAND first began in 2008. Since then, we have raised over $3000 for Genocide Intervention Network (www.genocideintervention.net) & Hope for Ariang (www.hopeforariang.org), hosted refugees from Darfur & South Sudan, and lobbied the offices of Chris Dodd and Rosa DeLauro for genocide prevention legislation.
We hold meetings every other Friday after school in rm. 106 (near English resource room).
PS - We LOVE new members, and are always interested in collaborating with other chapters! Any questions, comments, or ideas? Feel free to email us at amity.stand@gmail.com or find us on

News StoryDec 13, 2010Posted by:From 4-8 pm on Sunday November 14th, the BruRoom at BAR in New Haven, CT, was a thriving center of opportunity for education, fundraising, and advocacy for better education in Sudan! An entertaining and friendly atmosphere of live music, passionate activists, and educational demonstrations greeted those attending the event, either there as activists to raise money for the building of a school in South Sudan, or students and parents wishing to enjoy the sounds of four local musicians. The musical line-up consisted of Kenny Urban, Kenny Ward, OConn, and Bushwhack, the concert’s headliner.

Last Thursday, we raised over $430 at Dresses for Darfur!! Thanks to Emily Feng, the super-active STAND member who chaired the event, we were able to put on what I believe has been our most successful event thus far. We plan to send that money, as well as $150 from a previous fundraiser, to Genocide Intervention Network (and hopefully win the Omekongo raffle =]).

So far, we have sent almost 400 postcards to the White House!!! Thanks for all your commitment and support! We will continue to collect and send more, so come find us in the halls if you would like some. We put a postcard in every teachers mailbox, and about 100 were returned, so we've got a lot of teachers onboard. As far as I know, the entire social studies department will be attending the lecture on Thursday. Pray for good weather and keep up the good work!
