Brown University STAND

Several years ago, a small group of dedicated Brown students formed the Darfur Action Network (DAN) to take action against the genocide in Darfur. After raising awareness of the genocide and leading a successful divestment campaign at Brown and throughout Rhode Island, DAN became an official STAND chapter and has continued to host fundraisers like DarfurFast and Afrobeat, community awareness campaigns, and advocacy events.

Going into the next year, we hope to expand our reach to address not just Darfur, but Sudan as a whole, as well as other conflicts such as Burma and Zimbabwe. For this coming fall we are considering initiatives such as a Rhode Island Teach Against Genocide campaign (http://www.teachagainstgenocide.org), a Banaa program to bring a Sudanese activists to study at Brown, a speaking series or conference, and expanded community outreach.

We are always looking for potential partners and opportunities to collaborate with other organizations, so please feel free to contact us! We'll be electing an official leader at the start of the academic year, but for now email anna_ninan@brown.edu with any ideas, questions, or concerns.

Come learn more about the genocide in Darfur, hear about the efforts that our group has undertaken in the past, and our exciting plans for the upcoming year.

Our group has been very active in the past few years; raising awareness on Brown's campus, passing successful legislation in Rhode Island and nationally, and raising thousands of dollars for aid in the conflict.  We really hope that you'll come out, learn more about our group, and help us out in our efforts!
