Genocide is claiming the lives of hundreds of people every day, because of hunger, disease, and attacks. Even more are being or are in great danger of being displaced and raped. Peoples` own governments do this to them, and so The Eye Opening recognizes that normal civilians must take action to end this madness. While our focus is primarily on Darfur, we do not ignore the atrocities being committed in other places such as Sri Lanka, The Congo, and Burma. We work by educating the public on current genocides and letting them know the resources available for action. We also advocate genocide intervention to the government, and fundraise for programs like civilian protection. The only requirement to join is to be a student at WAHS, don't be nervous, contact me. Even if you don't want to commit yourself completely I can still use a little help. If you aren't a student at WAHS, e-mail me and I'll help you start your own chapter. They are the sufferers, we are the witnesses, until we act. Then we are the difference between life and death.

It seems we started too late in the year for a club or a fundraiser. One effective thing we can do individually is write letters to politicians. Go to www.darfurscores.org to get addresses and evaluations of Pennsylvanian politicians. The government is of the people, by the people, and for the people, so you'd better believe your voice can make a difference.
