We raised about $350. this Friday for our Sister School, the New Sudan School, in Djebal Camp, Chad, for refugees of the Darfur Genocide. We had some amazing acts, and we also had two students, Amira Downes, and Zach Jamous, translating into Arabic for our Darfuri friends. We plan to send them clips of the show with the translations, so they can see how much our community supports them. We had each person who attended sign a card to send to them, as well.

Our efforts last week raised over $2,300 for civilian protection in Darfur and Burma! Congrats to all who fasted, and a mighty thanks to all of our donations!

Our last STANDFast fundraiser will be on Friday, December 19th from 5:30-9:30 at the Harwich Community Center. All are welcome! Admission is $5, and it's a great chance to see some of your favourite local bands in action for cheap, with all of the proceeds going to a more than worthy cause. We're very excited to see more money raised! I'll write a new post with links to all of our publicity from the past week very soon!

Hey all! Congrats to everyone on the end of STANDfast. I know the Harwich and Dennis-Yarmouth chapters had some very successful fundraising, and I hope you all did too! We got some awesome publicity, and some not-so-awesome feedback. I thought I’d show you some of the user comments we got on one article:

Great symbolic gesture, but little will happen. Until these kids, and their parents, vote for people who actually care about the people of Burma, it will be business as usual. Perhaps when the students start thinking for themselves, that will occur

Singing at the beginning of the Tents of Hope Concert of Saturday

After an amazing couple of days in Washington DC with our sister group, DYRHS, Harwich is more enthused than ever to rekindle the fire seen in the eyes of those 700 activists this weekend. We are fully committed to bringing that fire to everyone we talk to about STANDfast, and will work until we raise [to be decided Wednesday] dollars here.

We plan to do this by:
-Getting people to sponsor us individually
-Getting people to join the effort and give something up
-Taking donations all week at lunch
-Offering History Class extra credit for those that participate
