STAND at Queens College is proud to announce the commencement of our Green Basket Project, a food pantry open to community members and students in need, to be located in our school's Dining Hall (near the music building) every Saturday between 12 and 3 pm.
We are receiving generous donations from Panera Bread and Trader Joe's, and are looking for more donors (particularly in terms of produce)!
Student volunteers are also welcomed!

This is neither a news story nor an event. But many of you have been asking for more info about Sudan. My first advice is google! Read whatever you can find, bearing in mind that you should always cross-reference info! Also, browse this website as well as http://www.genocideintervention.net/, http://www.enoughproject.org/, hrw.org, and whatever else you come across. Sudantribune.com has frequent news about the region.
Here is what is directly pertinent to the letter campaign we are having:
News StoryAug 03, 2009Posted by:Perhaps it’s “old news” by now, but back in May, the Queens College STAND chapter held a week-long event called REFUGEE CAMPus. In order to raise awareness about the genocide occurring in Darfur, we slept out on our campus quad in makeshift tents for five days and four nights, during our finals week. Additionally, we spent a great deal of time letting our fellow students know that activism must and does live on.
News StoryApr 09, 2009Posted by:Our April 1st die-in - expressing solidarity with those being victimized in Sudan - followed on the anti-sexist heels of another outstanding AquaMoon performance. As explained in the Queens Ledger article (see story below), AquaMoon is a spoken-word performance group dedicated to creatively and peacefully combating the evils of sexism, racism, and injustice in general.
News StoryApr 08, 2009Posted by:I'll let the article speak for itself!
News StoryApr 04, 2009Posted by:As Queens College's Chaney-Schwerner-Goodman clock tower tolled noon on Monday, March 23rd, a dozen STAND students laid down on the front steps of one of campus's most popular buildings to express solemn solidarity with those being victimized by genocide in Sudan.
