STAND: EHS is the only high school STAND chapter in the state of Minnesota. Currently led by Tara Mohtadi and Emily Pederson, it was created in March 2009 and has already raised over $6000 for GINet's Civilian Protection Program. It has over 240 members, with 20 active members. Our past events include hosting speakers Dr. Ashis Brahma, the sole doctor for over 25,000 refugees in a Darfur refugee camp, and Omekongo Dibinga, a spoken word artist from Congo, as well as hosting Camp Darfur. In November 2009, 10 members attended the Pledge2Protect conference in Washington DC. We hope to educate the community about the crisis areas in Darfur, Congo and Burma. We also hope to increase advocacy by urging community members to call 1800-GENOCIDE, and by speaking to our representatives. Last year, our group spoke to Rep. Eric Paulsen [R, MN-3] and lobbied him to join the Sudan Caucus, as well as Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken.
