Last week's meeting was phenomenal. Those of us who have been around for a while got to meet some awesome new people, many of whom we hope will become regular members and throw themselves into the fray that we call anti-genocide activism. Here's a brief agenda of what we covered:
1) What STAND is and what we've done at Berkeley over the past couple of years
2) How the genocide in Darfur began and what's happening now/what's going on in East Burma and the DRC (for more info on the conflicts, be sure to check out http://standnow.org/learn/conflict)

We finished off our 2007-2008 school year with a bang - it was fantastic. UC Berkeley STAND held its second annual Week of Action, and we tried to make advocacy a huge component. So we got Ben and Jerry (yes, the actual founders, IN PERSON) to come to our campus and hand out free ice cream in exchange for calls to GI-NET's anti-genocide hotline (1-800-GENOCIDE - if you haven't checked it out yet, do it now!).
News StoryJun 10, 2008Posted by:VisitorOn April 24th, UC Berkeley STAND was host to hip hop artists Goapele, Zion I, and DJ Fuze and a special screening of the new documentary "Darfur Now."
STAND and Participant Media sponsored a nationwide tour of the critically acclaimed new documentary, Darfur Now. Five schools around the country, chosen for their outspoken efforts to fight genocide, hosted a special screening of Darfur Now and a concert to raise awareness, funds, and send the message that NOW is the time to end genocide in Darfur.
