University of Vermont STANDCREATED:07.02.2008
VermontNortheastUnited States
The UVM STAND Chapter was founded by alumni Meredith Burak (former STAND International Coordinator) in 2005, who has worked on the Dream for Darfur campaign with Mia Farrow, and now works on the Darfur Action Campaign at the American Jewish World Service.
Over the last three years, UVM STAND has hosted prestigious guests such as Professor Elie Wiesel, Senator Romeo Dallaire, and Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas Kristof. Every April, UVM STAND organizes an entire month of action for Sudan to coincide with Yom Hashoah and the Rwandan Genocide.
With new leadership and a full schedule in front of us, STAND looks to do great things in 2008. The TAG campaign, Lobbying our Representatives, the Bejjing Olympics and the Presidential Election will all be huge events helping to shift the course of this genocide. This very well could be the year that we see the beginnings of a new Sudan. Check out our website (www.uvm.edu/~stand), sign up for our listserv and get involved with the hottest group on campus! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~VERMONT TEACH AGAINST GENOCIDE CAMPAIGN~
To whom it may concern,
University of Vermont STAND (Students Take Action Now Darfur), along with Teach Against Genocide, is spearheading a statewide initiative called VT-TAG (Teach Against Genocide). The goal of the Teach Against Genocide campaign is to create state legislation mandating that genocide education be taught in public schools. By educating and influencing our nation’s youth on relevant topics of prejudice, injustice and human rights violations, we can enlighten a whole generation of thinkers, giving them the necessary tools to make a difference.

ATTENTION: UVM STAND MEMBERSHELLO EVERYBODY!
August is here, and it is time to start thinking about school once again…
When thinking about the upcoming semester, let us not only consider the education we shall be receiving, but also the education of students in all Vermont public schools. Genocide education must become a new standard in Vermont schools if we have any chance of stopping such atrocities.

SUMMER TAG UPDATE (1)ATTENTION: UVM STAND MEMBERS
As I reflect on the past couple of years, both as a student and as a member of this organization, I have come to accept one overarching truth… anything worthwhile takes time. The biggest mistake we can make as a group is to rush head on into a world that none of us fully understand. The world I speak of is the world of politics.
