CAMPOUT TO STAMPOUT GENOCIDE

campoutflier-2.png

Campout to Stampout Genocide gives groups the opportunity to create mock refugee shelters in the South Oval in order to raise awareness about the current genocides occurring worldwide in place like Darfur, Congo and Burma. This is the fourth year that the Campout has taken place at The University of Oklahoma and the main purpose of the event is to provide a visual presentation to raise awareness of genocide for the entire campus. We believe that all human beings are equally important regardless of their origin, that human rights are universal and should be protected, and that genocide-no matter where it may occur has no place in this century.

Groups can be creative building the mock refugee camps using any materials such as old sheets, spray paints, wood etc. Groups are encouraged to use everyday items. Some supplies will be provided on a first come first serve basis. We ask that groups have no fewer than 3 members. Individuals may register and will be grouped together.

Along with creating camps, groups will also be helping to raise funds. 25% of all funds raised will go to STAND: a student anti-genocide coalition, while the other 75% will go to the Genocide Intervention Network to provide civilian protection on the grounds of Darfur and Burma.

Groups will be provided with a donations collection jar and (hopefully) a free lunch (meat-lover and vegetarian friendly options). Outstanding teams will be awarded with recognition in "most creative", "most livable", best fundraiser, and best advocate.

Schedule of Events:

Camp building time: 9am – 1:30 pm (it’s also okay if you need more time)
Camp dismantling time: 6pm-7pm
Fundraising for Genocide Intervention Network – All day

*****THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO HELPED WITH THIS EVENT!!!*****

We will be posting information in the next week or so on how much we raised and which groups were chosen as best fundraiser/most creative camp/most livable camp/people's choice/best advocate!
