Mark Hanis at Vassar!
Mark Hanis is the Founder and Executive Director of the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net), an organization focused on providing U.S. citizens with the tools to stop and prevent genocide. GI-Net has played a pivotal role in politically mobilizing American citizens who are dedicated to putting an end to the perpetration of genocide, and has successfully lobbied Congress to fund the peacekeepers in Darfur. Hanis' organization also successfully lobbied Congress to pass the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act, which allows state and local governments to cut investment ties with companies doing business in Sudan, and aims to pressure Sudan to end the violence in Darfur. GI-Net is the parent organization to STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, which has over 800 chapters on campuses around the country, including a recently founded chapter at Vassar.
Sponsors: the Vassar Jewish Union, Vassar College Political Science Department, and STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition.
