Ending with a bang!
We finished off our 2007-2008 school year with a bang - it was fantastic. UC Berkeley STAND held its second annual Week of Action, and we tried to make advocacy a huge component. So we got Ben and Jerry (yes, the actual founders, IN PERSON) to come to our campus and hand out free ice cream in exchange for calls to GI-NET's anti-genocide hotline (1-800-GENOCIDE - if you haven't checked it out yet, do it now!). We also held the Darfur Now concert (see our older post), screened a movie, tabled, and participated in the Armenian club's anti-genocide chain (people holding hands in a big circle in Berkeley's gathering place, Sproul Plaza). Altogether, it was a really exciting and powerful week!
I can't wait to see what we plan for the coming year. We'll probably kick it off with some more advo, of course... maybe lobbying at the capitol building. I know we'll definitely be fundraising for GI-NET's civilian protection program and trying to raise the money needed to get to Washington, D.C. for STAND's National Student Conference. Can't wait!
