Wrock for Darfur will be an all-day festival organized to raise both awareness of and funds for the refugees from the Darfur region of Sudan. Through the merging of the Harry Potter fandom and the Save Darfur campaign, the event will inform and excite attendees about becoming involved in the anti-genocide effort.

Since UN forces arrived earlier this year, they've been facing difficulties in Darfur. Shortages of supplies and government foot-dragging have been major obstacles. But the situation took a turn for the worse this week when a peacekeeping mission in Northern Darfur was ambushed by 40 armored vehicles. Seven peacekeepers were killed in the fighting, and 22 more wounded.

We finished off our 2007-2008 school year with a bang - it was fantastic. UC Berkeley STAND held its second annual Week of Action, and we tried to make advocacy a huge component. So we got Ben and Jerry (yes, the actual founders, IN PERSON) to come to our campus and hand out free ice cream in exchange for calls to GI-NET's anti-genocide hotline (1-800-GENOCIDE - if you haven't checked it out yet, do it now!).
