Update on STAND in CCS

UPDATE ON STAND

Okay. We have the letter written. Many of you have signed it. But Mr. Snyder recommended we edit the first page some more and add information about the Unatego STAND chapter. I can't call the Unatego school until Monday, so Monday I'll call, Monday night I'll rewrite, Monday 9th period I'm hoping to visit the freshmen honors English class to give that miniature presentation (any volunteers to join me? hopefully TC, because we were so ace), and Tuesday I'll get it to the Board, somehow. TC, is the best method through you to your mom?

So that's the update on STAND. We're hoping to have a big group meeting of everyone interested in raising genocide awareness after the senior play is over. Of course we can't call it STAND, that's totally illegal. But we can still do things in the meantime. Actually, we can still do plenty of things. And I think we should also be fairly active once summer comes.

Also all of us that watched "Scream Bloody Murder" though it was amazingly informative, we had a great discussion afterwards (led by the ravishing Ms. Amy Bishop), and we want to do it again in a larger space with more people. So that will also happen once the senior play is over.

Next week on Monday 5th period and Tuesday 6th period (or is it vice versa? SOMEONE TELL ME QUICK) anyone is allowed to go into Mrs. Sciallo's room to discuss all of this, everything in general. Just to talk about genocide and raising awareness and educating each other and things. So do please come!

Finally, I got a massive e-mail from our chapter coordinator Sarah Juster about all sorts of awesome things we can do on the website and otherwise right now. I'm going to post it underneath this note. If it isn't very nice to read right here, ask me to e-mail it to you and I will.

Okay? Okay. Have a great Saturday, it is a beautiful beautiful morning.

love,
anna

Also, email me, if you’re interested in setting up a lobby meeting during the congressional recess, April 6-17th! I know it’s a few weeks away, but it’s important to plan this ahead of time!

***Read Prendergast’s Op-Ed on Obama and Sudan
There’s an amazing op-ed written by John Prendergast circling the anti-genocide community right now, and I thought I’d share it with you. I think it’s really informative and inspiring, not to mention packed with essential knowledge for staying up-to-date on the situation in Sudan. Let me know what you think!

***Connect with Darfur Refugees
For 10 consecutive days, i-ACT will connect you with the faces and lives of Darfur refugees who have escaped genocide in their homeland. Watch videos from the field team; read journal entries and add your comments; take action daily that will change the way the world responds to genocide. Visit Stop Genocide Now i-ACT to join the community, learn what Darfuris are saying about the ICC and justice and personally connect with a child who needs your voice and action.

***Bring War Child to Your School
War Child (link to http://www.warchildmovie.com/#), an award-winning feature documentary, offers a unique perspective into the lives of child soldiers in Sudan and the lasting impact of the North-South civil war. The film tells the story of former child soldier Emmanuel Jal through his own words and music while exploring Sudan’s modern history of civil war. The film can also serve as an excellent educational tool for you and your chapter, shining light on Sudan’s past history as background for the current crisis in Darfur. Let me know if you are interested in the film and I will get you more details about fees and contact information.

***Link Up with Sister Schools
Professional Basketball stars, the Enough Project, and partners launch the Darfur Dream Team’s Sister Schools Program.
In the wake of his journey to the Darfuri refugee camps in eastern Chad, Tracy McGrady of the Houston Rockets decided to take action in response to what he had witnessed during his trip. Working with the Enough Project and its partners, he helped create the Darfur Dream Team’s Sister Schools Program, an innovative new initiative to connect American middle schools, high schools, and universities with students in the Darfuri refugee camps. Interested in getting your school involved? Visit www.darfurdreamteam.org to learn more!

***Attention Graduating Seniors!
Do you know where you are attending school next year? Are you wondering if the school has aSTAND chapter? If you are interested in discovering if your school has a STAND chapter, and want to contact the chapter leader, please send me an email! I will introduce you to the chapter leader via email, and they you can learn about what the chapter has been doing on their campus.

Thanks, and lets help keep up the Darfur from Day One energy by participating in Day 75!

Sarah
