Boston Latin School STAND has been busy at work for the first half of the 2009-2010 school year. The year began with a Saturday bake sale raising nearly $70. Our leaders board then spent a weekend in DC attending the STAND conference and returning with wonderful ideas and lessons for the rest of the club. Soon after the members were hard at work preparing for our annual cupcake day! Students were allowed to come and decorate their own cupcake, this event raised a spectacular $333! That, is a lot of enjoyed cupcakes. Next STAND moved its attention to making BLS student body more knowledgeable, through Genocide Awareness Day. Hosting 5 in school sessions, that included topics such as, Burma, Congo, Darfur, Rape as a Weapon of War and Responses to Genocide. After school hours an activism fair was hosted. With fun activities and information both on the genocides and ways they could help.
The BLS chapter continues still in their efforts as they begin to plan for the second half of the school year. Future events include: a local Lost Boy coming and speaking at two event, helping with the school's Hope for Haiti event and our annual STAND in Harmony. Keep updated on the details through the events link on the right!
